The best green hot sauce is tangy and spicy. It should brighten up whatever dish you use it on. It should add both flavor and heat. Most importantly, it should be green! I don’t care if it gets its green from peppers, tomatillos, or straight-up chemicals. It needs to be green, baby!
I tried a whole slew of bottles to find the best green hot sauce on the market. Eight hot sauces made the list, including a green habanero sauce, green Mexican hot sauce, and even a green tomato hot sauce. Scroll to find out the meanest, greenest, and best green hot sauce brands you can buy at the grocery store. (And if you’re looking for the best hot sauce regardless of color, we ranked those, too.)

Best Creamy
Burman’s Avocado Serrano SauceInstacartAldi really brought the heat with this avocado and serrano pepper-based green hot sauce. It’s creamy and spicy, my favorite combination of mouth experiences. It has a decent amount of kick to it and it’s tangy. I’ve been dousing frozen chicken burritos in this stuff and it makes a great and spicy lunch. And, since it’s from Aldi, this stuff is cheap. Good job, Aldi!

Best for Asian Food
Fix Lemongrass SrirachaAmazonFix makes a unique and delicious hot sauce that I find myself reaching for regularly. It has a strong lemongrass flavor (a very underrated flavor in my opinion) and a bright tang. If you’ve never had lemongrass, it tastes a little like ginger mixed with lime. It’s citrusy and herbaceous. This green hot sauce is so wonderful on stir-fries and Asian noodle dishes. It might not be your everyday hot sauce, but it will be perfect for the right dish.

Most Unique
PicamasAmazonMy family has been consuming this green tomato hot sauce since before I was born. We put this on everything. I knew I was biased, so I asked Gwynedd Stuart, managing editor of Sporked to step in and give it an additional taste. Luckily, she confirmed it is just as good as my family thinks it is. Let me warn you, though: This hot sauce is different. It’s very thick and comes in a squeeze bottle. It’s super tangy. It almost tastes like spicy, zippy, ketchup (it’s made with green tomatoes, so that makes sense). I know that sounds weird, but trust me. It’s good!

Best Green Sriracha
Sky Valley Green Sriracha SauceAmazonThis green chili hot sauce is similar to the Green Dragon hot sauce from Trader Joe’s but much, much better. This is a green hot sauce for cilantro lovers (me). Because of the garlic, jalapeño, and cilantro flavor profile, this would be great on any type of food from Latin America or Asia, making it a great multi-purpose hot sauce to keep on hand at all times. It’s also not too hot, so this is a great option for those who can’t stand too much heat.

Best XXX
El YucatecoTargetThis stuff could really blow a hole through the center of your body if you eat enough of it. It’s so spicy and I love that about it. Part of my burrito-eating ritual is dabbing one single drop of this green Mexican hot sauce to each bite. If you’re not a fan of actually hot green hot sauce, steer clear of El Yucateco. It actually brings the heat in the best way possible.

Best Smoky
Marie Sharp’s Green Habanero Pepper SauceAmazonMarie Sharp’s Green Habanero Pepper Sauce is so smoky and delicious. It tastes like green habaneros were roasted over an open flame before being turned into this delicious green habanero hot sauce. It’s also incredibly spicy. It hits you right in the back of the throat. If you toss this on tacos, the spicy food lovers in your family will thank you.

Best Splurge
Mx. Green Sass by Shaquanda’sHeatonistMx. Green Sass by Shaquanda’s is one of the best things we ate so you know it’s good. This green hot sauce is so thoughtful and well-rounded. It’s tangy, savory, and filled with umami. It has hints of cumin. I love everything about this hot sauce and it made me want to try all the other Shaquanda’s hot sauces. While this is a bit of a splurge because it’s $10 a bottle and you typically need to order it online, it’s totally worth it. We love you, Shaquanda’s! Did I mention that this hot sauce originated at a drag festival?

Best of the Best
Green TabascoTargetIf you’ve been to Chipotle, you’re probably familiar with the Green Tabasco hot sauce. It is one of two premade hot sauces they have at their restaurants. I don’t know whose idea it was to have a Louisiana hot sauce brand at a Mexican chain restaurant, but they made a good decision. This ultra-tangy green hot sauce cuts through rich and fatty foods like nobody’s business. “What about green Cholula?” I know, I know. It’s good, but it’s similar to this and just not as good. Sorry!
